Olds’ representation of ice-skaters in her metaphor also signifies that sex without love is cold and detached. In amongst her academic duties and her poetry writing she has managed to be a superb mother to Batiri and Baravi and loving wife to my friend and running buddy Randy Thaman. All that time no author has been credited with this immortal work, only 'Author Anonymous' has appeared at the bottom. Separation perhaps, rather than detachment. Sadly, I don’t think my list is particularly controversial or revelatory, except perhaps my number one pick.
